Position: Internal Auditor

Contract: Permanent, Full Time, (part-time will be considered)

The position will be based in the United Kingdom or any of WaterAid’s partner countries: Tanzania, Nigeria, South Africa, or Nepal, subject to right-to-work qualification in each country.
In the UK place, we provide hybrid working: In a WaterAid office, employees spend at least 40% of their time face-to-face. WaterAid is headquartered in Canary Wharf, London, and will serve as your workplace and contract base.

The role

As our own dedicated and tenacious Internal Auditor, you will carry out an agreed-upon audit programme across WaterAid and its associated organisations, as well as any additional ad hoc tasks and investigations that may arise. WaterAid is devoted to maintaining the highest standards of expertise and financial honesty. The post holder will be expected to meet this commitment by carrying out an agreed-upon programme of internal audit work, including audits throughout the WaterAid global federation and its associated organizations, assisting management with ad hoc projects, and conducting investigations and reviews as needed. The position holder will be expected to follow and work in line with competent auditing standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide internal audits to ensure that financial and other control measures are suitable and implemented as intended.
  • Internal audits will encompass UK head office functions, other WaterAid Federation nations, local Country Programmes, and partner organizations and will include the following responsibilities:
  • Respond to governance’s requests for advise on control systems, risk management, and governance. This will consist of the following tasks:
  • Contributed to the creation of the Global Assurance department by:
  • Conduct inspections into suspected fraud or other financial abnormalities while adhering to best practices for data protection, confidentiality, etc.

Qualifications

  • Honesty, integrity, determination, and sensitivity
  • Experience and knowledge of risk-based auditing approaches
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and financial skills, with a knack for budgeting and financial management.
  • Excellent knowledge of risk administration and internal controls.
  • Strong communication and report writing abilities, with native or advanced proficiency in English.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and trustees.
  • Excellent scheduling and organizational abilities, with the ability to juggle several assignments and fulfill deadlines.
  • Good IT literacy.
  • Great interpersonal abilities and demonstrated ability to operate across cultures.
  • The ability to travel and the capacity to work independently under limited supervision

Although not essential, we also prefer you to have:

  • A specialized CCAB (Consultative Committee of Accounting Bodies) accounting qualification or a registered member of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors.
  • Experience employed in the INGO field
  • Proficient in auditing using statistical approaches.
  • Education and/or experience with fraud investigation
  • Knowledge of French or Portuguese, as well as South Asian or African languages spoken in WaterAid’s target nations.
