The Chief Mazengo campus is located in the Kikuyu region of Dodoma, some 3.5 kilometers southwest of the town center.

The University seeks applications from adequately qualified persons for the following positions:

Position : STUDENT COUNSELLOR II (1 Post)

Reports to : Dean of Students (DOS)

Station : SJUT Chief Mazengo Campus – Dodoma

Job Summary

The goal of this position is to help the Dean of Students in carrying out tasks related to all students’ mental and physical health, as well as their emotional welfare. The Student Counsellor will offer students a high-quality counselling service for a variety of social, emotional, and health difficulties.

Qualifications

A university degree with a focus on Educational Psychology/Divinity or Social Welfare and Counselling; an Advanced Diploma in Social Welfare or Community Development; and three (3) years of relevant professional experience in a similar capacity. Women are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

The Student Counsellor II will be accountable to the Dean of Students for the efficient and effective fulfillment of tasks and obligations related to individuals’ mental and physical health, as well as their emotional well-being.

He/she will specifically be accountable for the following:

  • Assisting the Dean of Students with student counseling and guidance in one’s assigned hall of residence.
  • Coordinating academic advice for students in his/her individual hall of residence, in coordination with academic advisers;
  • Coordinating students’ cultural, recreational, and athletic activities in his hall of residence;
  • Serving as an advisor to students’ government at the hall of residence level, attending meetings of the Health Committee and the Hall Assembly.
  • With the consent of the Dean of Students, providing permits to students who may suffer emergencies that need absences from campus for several days;
  • Taking care of students’ wellbeing and ensuring that the sick are quickly treated and adequately cared for; and
  • Performing any additional duties and obligations assigned by one’s reporting officer.

Salary Scale: Staff salaries are classified according to the SJUT Scheme of Service.
